Contra Vision

Contra vision is a perforated window graphic that carries your branding on the outside while still allowing people inside to see out. It suits shopfronts, vehicle windows and glass doors where you need advertising without losing light or visibility.

What contra vision is and how it works

Contra vision, also called one way window film, is a printed vinyl with tiny perforations across the face. From the outside, the print reads as a full graphic with your logo, message and colours. From the inside, the perforations allow you to see out through the glass once the film is fitted correctly. It is a practical choice for businesses that want advertising on a glazed surface without covering every part of the window.

We supply and fit perforated window graphics for shops, offices, workshops and vehicles across Paarl, Wellington and the wider Boland. It is useful where you need daylight in the space, but still want privacy and a clean branded look. For a busy road-facing site in Stellenbosch or a delivery bakkie in Worcester, this can be a useful middle ground between clear glass and full block-out vinyl.

Sizes, print options and finish choices

Contra vision is made to size for each opening, panel or vehicle window. There is no fixed standard because glass sizes vary from one shopfront to the next, and a bakkie cab window is different from a large retail window. We measure and cut to suit the frame, then allow for trim, curves, handles and seals where needed. On vehicle glass, the fit has to suit the shape of the window and the line of the rubber, otherwise the edges lift too easily.

  • Custom widths and heights for small door panels up to large shop windows
  • Full-colour printing for logos, promotions, trading hours and product ranges
  • Black or white backing options depending on the level of outside impact needed
  • Optional overlaminate where the job calls for extra surface protection
  • Trimmed edges for neat fitting on framed glass and vehicle windows

For larger runs, we can keep the artwork consistent across multiple branches or vehicles. If you have a fleet in Malmesbury and Paarl, the same artwork can be repeated with the same measurements so the branding stays tidy. Minor changes to wording or contact details are easy to handle for reprints and updates.

Where contra vision suits best

This product suits places that need a balance of privacy, visibility and branding. Shopfront windows often work well because the print faces the street while staff still get light and a view from inside. It is also used on office glazing, service counters, warehouse doors and access areas where people need to see out but the public should not see every detail inside. In coastal towns like Somerset West or inland areas with strong sun, it can help reduce glare a bit too.

On vehicles, contra vision is often fitted to rear windows on panel vans, cars and bakkies. It can be used for business branding while still keeping rear visibility from inside the cabin. That said, it must be planned properly for road use and the view through the back window should remain acceptable. For riders and drivers who want a neat look on side glass, it can work well if the design is kept readable at speed.

  • Retail windows and glass doors
  • Office partitions and reception areas
  • Workshop windows facing a public area
  • Delivery vehicles, bakkies and panel vans
  • Promotional campaigns, launches and seasonal specials

Installation, power and site requirements

Contra vision does not need power or gas to function. It is a passive graphic, so once it is installed there is nothing electrical to maintain. That makes it useful for sites where a light box is not needed, or where you want a lower-cost option on existing glass. Installation does require a clean, dry surface and enough room to work carefully around the frame. If the glass is dusty, damp or recently washed with oily products, adhesion can be affected.

For shopfronts, we normally need access to the inside and outside of the window so the film can be aligned correctly. On vehicle fitment, the window should be clean and the vehicle should ideally be parked under cover, especially in windy weather. In Paarl heat or along the coast where humidity is high, fitting conditions matter. If the surface is too hot or damp, the job takes longer and the finish may not settle properly at the edges.

If the site has security bars, tint film, frosting or existing stickers, let us know upfront. That way we can check whether the new graphic will fit over the area or whether old film should be removed first. A neat installation is always easier when the window condition is known before the job starts.

Care, cleaning and servicing over time

Contra vision needs regular cleaning if you want the print to stay readable and the inside view to remain clear. Dust, road film and salt can build up on exterior glass, especially on vehicles and in coastal areas. A soft cloth, mild soap and clean water are usually enough. Avoid harsh solvents, abrasive pads and strong pressure washing too close to the edges because that can shorten the life of the film.

For best results, we recommend checking the edges from time to time, especially on windows that get a lot of sun or movement. If a corner starts lifting, it is better to address it early than wait for the whole panel to come loose. We can assist with servicing, removal, reprints and updates where the message changes or the film has reached the end of its useful life. On busy trading sites this happens alot more often than people expect, especially when trading hours, prices or contact details change.

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent only
  • Do not scrub the printed face with coarse sponges
  • Avoid high-pressure washing at the film edges
  • Check for lifting on corners after strong heat or wind
  • Arrange replacement when the print fades or the message changes

What to check before you order

Before ordering contra vision, it helps to know exactly where it will be fitted and what the final message should say. Measure the visible glass area, not just the outer frame, and note whether the window opens, slides or has handles in the way. For vehicles, confirm which side of the glass will be printed and whether the film should face the inside or outside of the window. Small details like this matter because they affect how the artwork is set out and trimmed.

It also helps to decide on the main purpose. If the aim is pure branding, the design can be larger and bolder. If the aim is privacy for a storeroom or back office, the coverage may be heavier. If you need more light, we can keep open areas in the layout so the window does not feel too closed in. Bring along your logo files if you have them, but if not, we can work from clear artwork and do the checks needed before printing. Pieter Johannes van der Merwe and the Catprints and Signs team handle these jobs from Paarl for clients across Wellington, Franschhoek, Klapmuts and Simondium, so the measurements and finish need to suit the local site, not just look good on paper.
